Education and Public Outreach
The primary objective of SALE education and outreach activities is to publicize and promote awareness of SALE science and research to a variety of audiences including the broader scientific community, funding agencies, young polar scientists, the media and the general public. This accomplished by a series of activities including:
- Organization of meetings and sessions at conferences and meetings to communicate findings to the community and educate early career scientists.
- Production of teaching materials as a resource for classrooms including the involvement of teachers in developing material. Schools are encouraged to become involved in field programs through internet links, blogs, and Question & Answer sessions.
- Maintenance of a website that serves as a portal to all SALE information.
- Distribution of an email digest to subscribers as items are posted and posted items are archived at the SALE website.
- Serving as a resource for the press. See Selected Press Coverage
- Coordinating with and assisting those interested in producing films and television shows.
- Encouraging inclusion of SALE science and research in exhibitions at museums and other informal education venues. For example, the National Museum on Antarctica and the PASS - Scientific Adventures Park.
